From the College Website Col Prof. Vel. Shri. Dr. R. Rangarajan, the founder and chairman of our group of colleges has a cherishable memory behind his success. Setting high standards and love for tireless hard work have made him to swim against the huge tides with ease.
As a man of steadfast values and belief in excellence, it is no surprise he consistently topped his class. By his absolute perseverance, he rose from an engineer in TNEB to a towering industrialist and blossomed into a doyen among educationists. After graduating with honors in Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Dr.R.Rangarajan earned a Masters in Automobile Engineering. After a short time being in TNEB he instigated to manufacture spare parts for earthmovers and liners as an OEM to Ashok Leyland.
He also manufactured rubber parts. Having emerged as a successful and prosperous industrialist, he felt the need to build a better India. Knowing very well that this is possible only by motivating the youth of today, he ventured into the educational sector. Ably supported and motivated by his wife Dr. Mrs. Sakunthala Rangarajan, he started a school in Avadi and now the couple has many colleges to their credit.
With a strong sense of passion for education and commitment to build a better tomorrow they ensure overall development to the students. Since 1990, the cluster of following educational institutions was established under their trusts in Avadi, Chennai. Through utter uphill struggle hard work and principled living, the couple has been able to make these institutions tremendously successful by offering 59 courses including P.G. courses. Dr. R. Rangarajan is currently the Syndicate Member of University of Madras and Anna University. Vel Tech has now flourished into a Technical University. The long, dedicated,deligente and passionate expedition continues to the cause of building the nation.
Vel Tech has provide access to high quality multipurpose technical education without any barrier by instituting 7 Crore Mahatma Gandhi National Merit Scholarships to ensure that the poor but meritorious are not denied such access. This noble vision has borne fruit by attracting students from across the country, students from each state and so far more than 400 students have had the benefit of totally FREE education, boarding and lodging. It was fitting that the 7th Mahatma Gandhi scholarships worth 1 crore to 119 students from all states of India studying in Vel Tech were distributed by Mr.Narayanamurthy, Chairman Emeritus Infosys and Dr. Sudha murthy, Chairperson Infosys foundation, known for their noble thinking and care for the underprivileged in the society.
Vice chancellor Dr.R.P .Bajpai outlined the origin and growth of the Vel Tech since 1990 with a current student strength of 20000 houses a deemed university , 3 engg colleges, 4 business schools ,nursing college, polytechnic college, and school. Inculcating the values of honesty determination, discipline and dedication Vel Tech engineers add value to our national progress. The university has several unique tie ups with foreign Universities, industries, research institutions in India and abroad. The aim is to be build a highly enriched reservoir of managerial and technically qualified man power. P.G. programes with ARAI, CDAC, SAIL, TATA STEEL, TAFE ,FCRI are some of the unique industry linked programs .
He further added that a special arrangement is made with Changsha University of science and technology, China and Sany heavy industries, China for students, projects and placements. An exclusive research park with over 80 labs executes joint R&D between industry and institutes. Vel Tech is India first deemed University to set up telecom centre of excellence by ministry of communication. The CDEM - centre of excellence on design engineering and manufacturing is a new initiative of Vel Tech with DASSAULT systems, Germany on product life cycle mgmt software. The co Curriculum activities includes industry institute interaction with over 2500 industries and finally making student ready for 306 recruiters.
